Thekkady is located 4 km away from Kumily, a plantation town in Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. The sanctuary is famous for its dense evergreen, semi-evergreen, moist deciduous forests and savanna grass lands. It is home to herds of elephants, tigers and other wild animals. Periyar Lake is worth visiting for an individual or as a family which gives a glimpse of the Periyar Tiger Reserve.
